6 Winter Skin Care Tips You Need To Follow
Time to rummage through your storage and remove those sweaters and blankets ‘cause winter is here! While you’re preparing to protect yourself from the cold winds, you need to realize that your skin needs protection too. Many people forgo a proper winter skin care routine and this can wreak havoc on their skin especially if they wear makeup. The cold air can steal moisture from your skin leaving it dry and itchy, which can lead to a lot of skin problems like dry skin, eczema, and other allergies. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Your skin can have a good relationship with winter if you just take care of it.
If you diligently follow a winter skin care routine just like when you did in summer, you can still maintain that healthy glow. But you need to remember that your summer skin care routine won’t work during the winter. A new season calls for a new skin care routine. These few steps will help keep your skin healthy and retain its moisture.
Skin Care Tip #1
No Hot Showers
We understand how tempting hot water baths during winter can be, but it isn’t good for your skin. Hot water strips your skin of its natural oils making it dry and itchy. If you like taking long baths then opt for lukewarm water or if you can’t give up on your hot showers, cut down on the time.
Skin Care Tip #2
It’s important that you moisturize immediately after a shower. Applying moisturizer directly after helps seal that dampness into the skin. It’s also important to pick skin care products that match your skin type. If you have oily skin, use water-based skin care products, for dry skin heavier oil-based moisturizers are good to rehydrate your skin and for those with sensitive skin, avoid skin care products that contain harsh fragrances and dyes.
Skin Care Tip #3
This is a no brainer. No matter the season, you always need to keep your skin hydrated from the inside by drinking a lot of water. During winter, we tend to switch out our water consumption with hot beverages, which doesn’t help keep the skin hydrated. 3 litres of water a day is a must all 365 days of the year.
Skin Care Tip #4
Choose Your Skin Care Products Wisely
What protected you from the summer heat will not do the same in the cold. Your skin care routines need to change with the season. In the summer, the soaring temperature causes excessive sweating and oilier skin which is why cooling moisturizers and cleansers that contain eucalyptus and menthol extracts are good for the skin and even keep the pores clean. But during winter, your skin gets drier and needs to be moisturized. So, using emollient-based soaps, lotions, and creams during these months will help soften and soothe your skin.
Skin Care Tip #5
Don’t Forget Sunscreen
Sunscreens aren’t only made for the summer. No matter how good those sun rays feel against your skin, UV rays are still harmful. You can enjoy the sun’s warmth but only after you’ve applied your sunscreen.
Skin Care Tip #6
Nighttime Skin Care Routine
No matter how tired you are, you need to follow your nighttime skin care routine religiously. Try avoiding creams that have a lot of preservatives and perfumes.
