The month of February has kicked off the award season with the BAFTA and the Grammys. The 61st Grammy awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb 10, 2019, and everybody’s been talking about it.

This year performers at Grammys 2019 include Post Malone, Janelle Monáe, Kacey Musgraves, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Post Malone, Lady Gaga and Canadian singer Shawn Mendes.

The girls ruled this year’s nominations and wins with Cardi B taking home Rap Album of the Year, Dua Lipa, Best New Artist, and Lady Gaga winning three prizes, including best pop performance for Joanne and best pop duet for Shallow, from the Oscar-nominated film A Star Is Born starring Bradley Cooper. Pop powerhouse Ariana Grande won her first Grammy Award for the Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener but skipped the ceremony following a dispute.

Among other prizes, Record of the year went to Childish Gambino a.k.a. Donald Glover for This Is America, and Kacey Musgraves received Album of the Year award for Golden Hour. Drake picked up Rap Song of the Year for God’s Plan.

Fifteen-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys played the charismatic host but the audience was in for a real treat when Michelle Obama walked onto the stage arm in arm with Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Jennifer Lopez. Joined later by Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys, the ladies truly epitomised #girlpower and shared personal anecdotes about how music has changed their lives and empowered them as women. The former U.S. first lady made a surprise appearance during the opening address at the 61st Grammy Awards and was met with a standing ovation from the adulating crowd.

The music’s biggest night did not disappoint in the beauty department, with everything from monochrome pink makeup to '90s and '70s inspired hair.

Singer Cardi B, however, stole the show in more ways than one. Not only she won her first Grammy award for Best Rap Album of the Year, but also made waves by her extra look. The rapper’s Mugler couture gown was designed to make her look like mermaid emerging from an oyster shell. She accessorised her form-fitting mermaid skirt with pearls and crystals. The singer nailed vintage runway fashion, complete with a pearl-adorned wig and bejewelled nail art.

Here are the fashion and beauty highlights of Grammy 2019.
