“Acne” – the nightmare-inducing word that haunts us all. While some are lucky enough to deal with these pesky little zits only during their teen years, for others, pimples follow them well into their 30s. If you fall into the latter portion, don’t worry, you aren’t alone. Nowadays, adult acne is pretty common with some of the main causes being fluctuating hormones, increase in pollution levels, stress, hormonal imbalance, medication and now with the on-going pandemic, even face masks can be added to this list.
Acne comes in all shapes, sizes and even types and in this article, we’re focusing on blind pimples. So, what are blind pimples and how to treat them? Keep on reading to find the answers.
Do you sometimes feel a pimple on your face but can’t see it cause it’s still beneath the skin’s surface? That’s your blind pimple. These types of pimples can occur anywhere on your face from your nose, forehead, chin, or jaw and you only know it’s there when you run your fingers over the area or if it starts to hurt. Blind pimples fall under the closed comedones category and can later even turn into whiteheads.
While blind pimples are a bit harder to get rid off as compared to your normal pimples, there are a few home remedies that can reduce or eliminate them completely.
Since this oil contains anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties which help reduce inflammation, it is a favourite ingredient in many anti-acne products. You can even use it to treat blind pimples. But do not use this oil directly on the skin.
Mix one drop of tea tree oil with one tablespoon of sweet almond oil and apply it using a cotton ball. You can leave it overnight and rinse it off in the morning.
Note: Before trying any new product, always do a patch test first, regardless of your skin type.
Cinnamon oil is rich in antibacterial properties which help fight acne by eliminating the acne-causing bacteria. But just like tea tree oil, do not use this directly on your face. Mix a drop or two of this oil with another carrier oil and apply it to the infected area.
Raw honey has plenty of skin benefits and ‘coz it is rich in anti-inflammatory properties, it is the perfect candidate to eliminate blind pimples. Apply a bit of raw honey on the infected area of the skin and leave it on for 30 minutes. This will help reduce inflammation.
Apple Cider Vinegar or ACV is a favourite go-to product in many skincare routines. Not only is it useful in curing many topical skin ailments, but consuming it also has plenty of benefits. With blind pimples, the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory present in ACV can help reduce the pimple and fight the acne-causing bacteria.
All you need to do is mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to three tablespoons of water, soak a cotton ball in it and apply it to the infected area. Leave it on for 10 -15 minutes before rinsing it off.
If you’re not sure about using any of these home remedies due to your sensitive skin or other issues, you can always take the safer route and use ice. Ice cubes help reduce swelling and inflammation on any part of the skin and it can do the same with your blind pimple as well. Just wrap the ice in a clean cloth and keep it on the pimple for 5-10 minutes. Do this regularly throughout the day to reduce inflammation.
Say goodbye to blind pimples and hello to clear, smooth skin.
