To get good-as-new makeup brushes all you need to do is follow these steps in knowing how to clean makeup brushes!

Wipe Excess Makeup With Clean Cloth

The first step in how to clean makeup brushes is to wipe all the excess makeup from your brush with the help of a clean cloth.

Wash Bristles Of Brush With Lukewarm Water

Rinse the bristles of your brush under running lukewarm water. Try to move and separate bristles to allow the water to penetrate the centre of the brush.

Mix Water With Some Shampoo

Then fill your bowl with some water and add 15 ML of shampoo of your choice into it. Make sure the bowl contains enough water to cover the brush's bristles.

Olive Or Coconut Oil For Oil-Based Makeup

If you’re using an oil-based concealer or foundation, mix 15ML oil with your water and shampoo. This is a great way to clean brushes properly.

Swirl Brush Into Mixture

Then swirl each brush into your mixture for about 20 seconds. As the water will start becoming dirty or cloudy, it’s a sign that your makeup is coming out of your brush.

Rinse Brush Under Warm Water

Continue massaging the brush under warm water. Keep your brush downwards pointed and keep rinsing until the shampoo doesn’t get out.

Shampoo Again If The Brush Is Still Dirty

Follow the same process but make sure to empty the bowl that contains dirty water.

Squeeze Excess Water

Then squeeze excess water and make sure your brushes aren’t dripping wet.

Let Brushes Dry

Lay them flat on a clean towel to soak any excess moisture.

How often should you be cleaning your makeup brushes?

If you are a regular makeup user, it’s advisable to clean your makeup brushes after every use. If not possible, cleaning makeup brushes once a week is also fine.

When should you replace your makeup brushes?

That time when you notice some unusual smell, bristles shedding, or discolouration, it’s time to replace your makeup brushes. Ideally, makeup brushes last up to 1-3 years, depending upon the quality and how well you take care of them.
