We caught up with Namrata who gave us an insight into what a typical day is like in the life of a makeup artist and stars she like to work with along with answering some of the basic makeup questions we all have. Here’s the glimpse of rapid fire with Namrata Soni:

What is your morning skincare or makeup routine like?

After waking up in the morning, I cleanse my face and then apply Liquid paraffin moisturiser on my skin. It is suitable for sensitive skin like mine. I never leave home without a good eye cream and my sunscreen. I wear a light foundation only if I am facing the camera otherwise I like to leave my skin sans makeup as much as possible.

You are India’s top celeb makeup artist; how often do you do your own makeup?
I don’t do a lot of makeup on myself. At the most I’ll wear liquid foundation, brown kajal, mascara, blush and lip gloss.

How to pick the perfect nude lipstick for yourself?
For Indian skin tones, it’s better to opt for nudes with pink or peach undertones. These hues flatter most of the Indian skin tones. Avoid picking nude lipsticks that are the same colour as your skin, as it can make you look sallow. If you don’t have a nude lipstick with pink undertones, you can add a tinge of pink eyeshadow, lipstick or blush to your nude lipstick and voila! Strobing on the other hand is a trend I like. Avoid

One makeup trend you wish would never return?
Heavy contouring and baking is not something everybody needs or can pull off. But due to hype on social media, everybody is trying it out. In the bid to try the trend, a lot people end up looking too made up.

Can one wear bold eyes and bold lips; tips on wearing this?
Bold eyes and bold are totally doable. They key to pulling off this look is confidence and the right kind of clothes. Bold mouth and bold eyes are best paired with neutral coloured clothing. Avoid pairing bold lips and eyes with heavy prints and flashy coloured clothing.

You have worked with so many stars, name one person from today who's makeup you would like to do and 1 person from the past?
I would love to work with Sushmita Sen again. I have worked with her in the past and she is a beautiful person inside out. From recent times, I am keen to work with Sarah Ali Khan and Jhanvi Kapoor, and even other girls. They are all so gorgeous.

How to makeup the makeup last longer?
A good prep before you start your makeup is very important. Rather than just relying on fixing sprays, prep your skin well for makeup by cleansing, toning, moisturising and priming, and it will stay on for longer.

What are makeup mistakes to avoid?
Wearing the wrong shade (mostly lighter), of foundation is one mistake many women make. It makes your skin look ashy. Also, applying too much foundation makes your face look cakey and chalky. Colouring your eyebrows to a shade darker than your natural brow shade can make you look clownish. Another mistake people make a lot is trying to make their eyebrows look unnaturally arched; it looks very stark, giving a harsh look to one’s face. Keeping the eyebrows softly arched makes the face look pretty.

One of the worst trend is using a darker lip liner over lighter lipstick. It is so unflattering. Over contouring I another

Tell us about some makeup myths doing round?
The biggest makeup myth doing rounds is that makeup doesn’t allow your skin to breathe leading to breakouts. This has no base. I believe that as long as you remove all the makeup at the end of your day, and keep the skin clean, your skin will be free of breakouts. Also, pay attention to your brushes. Keep them clean always and avoid sharing your makeup brush at any cost.

Share some of your favourite makeup/beauty hacks?
Putting highlighter at all the right places can make your skin look naturally radiant. If you master the art of curling the eyelashes, it’s half the battle won.

What is the best makeup tip your ever received?
Multitasking with makeup! My teacher taught me how to use my makeup products in more ways than one. Each makeup product can be used in place of other. For example, you can use the lipstick as lip and cheek tint, eyeshadow as blush and vice versa and so on. The list goes on. This is one of the best tips I have ever received.
