Everything You Need To Know About Foil Eyeshadows

everything-you-need-to-know-about-foil-eyeshadows.jpeg

As much as it’s about the couture, the International fashion runways have become a platform to showcase some really interesting and trendsetting makeup. This year’s fall and spring trends for women have been largely influenced by feminism and women empowerment, so it wasn’t much of a surprise when vivid colours, daring styles and out-of-the-box makeup trends overshadowed numerous shows. This year, eye makeup took centre stage. From cut-crease to smoky eyes to bright eyeliners, foil eyeshadows, and eyeshadows, there has not been a dull moment on the catwalks.

And if there’s one trend that has gotten us truly excited, it’s the metallic eye. This 2000 trend has made a major comeback for the fall season in an all grown up avatar. Models at the Marc Jacobs and Ulla Johnson shows were seen flaunting glistening-wet foil and metallic shadows with eye makeup laced with loads of glitter and sparkle. You don’t need glasses to see that the textured shadow is having a moment.

While gilded shadows in gold, copper, bronze, and silver are a forever favourite, unconventional colours like cobalt blue, deep aubergine, steel grey, and gunmetal were also rampant on the runways.

When it comes to high-impact makeup, nothing delivers like metallic makeup. The latest in this category is the foil eyeshadow. A product that literally gives the feel and looks of foil on your eyes with a high-shine finish. It was spotted on the runway at Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet for Fall 2013 and has only become popular ever since.

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen rocked gold foil eyeshadow at one of the events and we love how she kept her makeup neutral, drawing attention to her gorgeous gold-gilded eyes. Scroll below to know about foil eyeshadow palettes, what is foil eyeshadow, and how to apply foil eyeshadow.

What Is Foil Eyeshadow Exactly?

Foil eyeshadow can be used in both wet and dry form but works best when used wet before application. It gives an insane shiny, metallic look with some texture that makes the shadow stand out. The foil eyeshadow, when applied right can give a molten liquid-like shine to your eyelids. The texture is truly luxurious, with smooth application and rich payoff. It can be great for events like weddings and parties with its out-of-the-world glittering effect. If you are wondering about the colours, gold, bronze, copper and silver are definitely must-haves. Below is an amazing recommendation for a foil eyeshadow palette!

The right start with the right product

Whether you like trying out new trends or just looking for something amazing for your friend’s wedding, the foil eyeshadow palette perfectly fits the bill.

The Manish Malhotra 9 in 1 Eyeshadow palette in Rendezvous, has foil shadows along with a mix of mattes & metallics. The formula is really amazing. On application, the eyeshadows feel light, like smooth cream. The foil eyeshadows also have a unique texture that makes the colours stand out. When mixed with a small amount of water, it emulsifies into a liquid metal texture and sets for a long time, without budging or flaking. Also, the dense pigmentation gives opaque coverage in one swipe. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or an expert, this is essential for the party season.

How to apply foil eyeshadows?

  • The foil shadows are not your regular shadows so it’s always a good idea to prepare your lids for the best results.

  • Clean the lids of oil or sweaty residue and use an eye primer. Using the primer provides a base for the eyeshadow to adhere to, hence making it stick around longer and making the colour pop on your eyes.

  • The foil eyeshadows can be applied alone, or on top of your regular eyeshadow. As it is quite pigmented, it’s best to use it sparingly and build on it as per the requirement. As mentioned earlier, the pigmentation and shine are the best when applied wet (with a wet brush).

  • Lastly, swipe a single stroke on your foiled shadow for an aced makeup look.

How To Foil Eyeshadow With Water

Another way to do foil eyeshadow is to do it with water. While foiling eyeshadow with water won’t let it last longer, but you can still amp up your eyeshadow look. All you need to do is make sure you put an eye primer underneath. Then pick up a flat shader brush, wet it with water, and use it with a shimmer eyeshadow.
