benefits-of-cucumber-for-skin

It’s summer—that’s enough of an indication for us to talk about ways to cool, soothe, and treat the skin. (cue visuals of sunburn-riddled faces following a few hours of poolside lounging.) And we have just the ingredient for you: cucumber & uses of cucumber for face. Did you know cucumber is good for face? If you’re confining this vegetable to circled-shaped patches around the eyes, you’re not doing it right. A cucumber hosts a spectrum of skin-loving benefits, and it’s time you acquaint yourself with them. Because, yes, cucumber is good for the skin—if not excellent. And that’s why we’ve put together a couple of benefits of applying cucumber on face along with ways to incorporate the vegetable into your self-care routine. Read on.

Everything You Need To Know About Cucumber Benefits For Skincare

Cucumber is really good for the skin as it provides hydration and combats ageing. Not only does it helps with hydration, but it also helps with a lot of other things. There could be so many things that you didn’t know about cucumber for skin care. They are powered with minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients and the cucumber benefits for skin are many.

Benefits Of Cucumber On Face

There are so many cucumber benefits for skin. Here’s what you need to know about cucumber skincare.

Soothes Inflammation And Puffiness

This one’s pretty evident—what with us layering slices of cucumber onto our eyes to diminish the appearance of dark, swollen, puffy under-eyes. This is possible thanks to cucumber’s anti-inflammatory and cooling properties. The vegetable soothes and relieves irritated and inflamed skin as well. This includes wounds, scratches, and cuts. This is one of the best cucumber benefits for skin!

Hydrates The Skin

Since cucumbers contain about 96% water, they’re ultra-hydrating for the skin. They contain polysaccharides that retain moisture in the skin too. This quality is especially beneficial for those with dry, flaky, and dull skin—applying cucumber to the face is one of the simplest ways to reinstate your radiance. This is another magical cucumber benefit for skin.

Treats Sunburns

This is something you’re going to want to know. Due to cucumber’s cooling properties, it can heal and treat sunburn skin naturally.

Prevents Premature Ageing

The vegetable’s composition of antioxidants can prevent the development of wrinkles on the face. And since it contains Vitamin C—responsible for the growth of newer cells—as well as folic acid—to fight off the effects of environmental aggressors like pollution and U.V rays that wreak havoc on the skin—it can prevent premature ageing, and tighten and firm the skin. It’s another fantastic benefit of cucumber on face!

Treats Acne-Related Flare-Ups

Cucumbers are mildly astringent in nature—this means that they cleanse the skin, tighten the pores, and dry out oil. This is particularly beneficial for acne-prone skin—because it is a build-up of excessive oil and dead cells that clog the pores, and induce breakouts.

Brightens Skin

Circling back to Vitamin C—this one brightens the skin, and reduces pigmentation and spots over time. That’s another reason why cucumbers must be a part of your routine.

Ways To Use Cucumber For Skincare

Now that we’ve gone over the benefits of cucumber on face, here are a couple of no-effort ways and uses of cucumber for face!

DIY Cucumber Face Mask

This is one of the most basic cucumber-based recipes to make an at-home face-mask for yourself. Blend one unpeeled cucumber in a blender. Go on to separate the chunks from the juice by pouring the resulting paste through a strainer. Apply the mask to your face, and let it sit for about 15 minutes. You can use this as an eye-mask to ward off morning puffiness too. Try throwing in two tablespoons of aloe vera to the mix right after straining the cucumber to amp up the effectiveness of the face-mask. Aloe vera is hydrating and soothing to the skin.

DIY Toner

Want to DIY a toner? Peel a cucumber, and slice it into smaller pieces before transferring it to a stove filled with water—enough to cover the pieces. Heat it over a low flame for about 7 minutes before moving the contents to a blender. Once you’ve pureed the pieces into a smooth paste, pour the mixture through a strainer to filter out any unblended bits. Proceed to store the resulting formula to a spray-bottle, and that’s it. Make sure you’re not storing the mist for more than three days as it will go bad eventually.

DIY Body Lotion

You need three ingredients to make your own cucumber-infused body lotion at home: cucumber, aloe vera juice, and coconut milk. Just grate one cucumber over a bowl. You can place a strainer over the bowl to weed out any solid bits. Proceed to pour it into a container, and add ¼ cup of aloe vera juice and ¼ cup of coconut milk. Shake it all together, and there you have it. An all-natural, skin-soothing lotion prepared in under 15 minutes!

Do you believe that there are so many benefits of applying cucumber on face? I’m pleasantly surprised. And that’s on using cucumber for the face and body.
