Bid Goodbye To Bacne With These Products

how to get rid of back acne

Back acne or Bacne is super common and an extremely normal occurrence. It can be frustrating and stubborn to get rid of, trust me, I know. The enormous sea of information that we have access to with the tap of our finger can be overwhelming. Use the wrong product and you can over-exfoliate, or under-exfoliate, dry it up too much or make it too oily. There’s so much that can go wrong, but don’t worry too much about it because we have got the guide to back acne treatment, that will help you fight it successfully! We have rounded up a list of the best practices and products you can adopt in your quest to banish bacne.

Back acne is caused when dead skin cells and oil or sebum accumulate within the pores in the skin, combined with an overgrowth of a common skin bacteria. Acne on the back and shoulders also results from sports and exercise that cause sweating and friction from athletic gear.

How to get rid of back acne

Use a treated body cleaner

It is of THE utmost importance that you choose the right cleanser for your back. When shopping choose one that specifically says ‘non-comedogenic’ or “oil-free” on the package. These will make sure to not clog your pores. You should avoid antibacterial soaps, astringents, and harsh physical scrubs that will amplify your back acne. Being gentle and patient is the key. Don’t use loofas, scrubs or any exfoliators that can damage the protective layer of your skin.

Use OTC ointments

While it isn’t the easiest part of your body to reach from all angles, it is beneficial to apply OTC gels or ointments that contain either retinol, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and sulfur. These when applied to pimples, blackheads or blemishes can help reduce inflammation, unclog your pores and dull your scars over time. Adapalene Gel is another gem that is recommended as a back acne remedy. It is best used after a shower, and before going to bed.

SPF >>>>

You could be doing all the right things and using the right products but if you expose your back to the sun for any amount of time without SPF, you’re fighting a losing battle. Sun exposure is harmful to your skin in a multitude of ways. It dries your skin out completely, for starters. For people with oily skin, that may seem like a benefit but overexposure to the sun in the absence of protection can actually make matters worse. When your skin is extremely dry, the sebaceous glands go into overdrive, and start to over-produce sebum which is an oily, waxy substance. This process, known as seborrhea, leads to the formation of stubborn blemishes. Moral of the story- do not forget your SPF sunscreen (50 or higher).

Back Masks

Free your back skin from excess oil production, sweat, and dirt by using a mask for bacne every second day. You can invest in a mask made specifically for bacne treatment or DIY with ingredients you probably already own. A rosewater and lemon juice mask is easy to make and works wonders for bacne. Squeeze half a lemon and add 4 tablespoons of rose water. You can either apply it directly over your back or put it in a spray bottle and use it as an anti-acne DIY mist. If you’re feeling adventurous add some aloe vera gel as well! Either use it as an overnight treatment or apply it 30 minutes before you head for a shower. The lemon juice is extremely rich in  Vitamin C, which is an anti-antioxidant that boosts skin collagen production and repairs skin from within. Rose water not only works to balance the skin’s pH levels, but can double or triple up as a great toner and cleanser to help clear pores of any dirt. It has hydrating and healing properties that reduce scarring.

Shower after working out

Allowing the dirt and sweat to just sit on your skin after a good work out could be detrimental to your back acne situation. Make sure to shower as soon as you can, following a work out of any kind. While you’re at it, also wash our workout clothes after each gym session, so you can have clean clothes each time. For whatever reason, if you’re unable to shower ASAP, keep an oil-free cleansing wipe handy, so that you can remove as much sweat from your body and then change into clean, breathable clothes.

Dietary Changes

Back acne treatmen
t can start at home - more specifically, in the kitchen! Your diet could be playing a huge role in the state of your skin. If you find yourself having breakouts after ingesting some particular foods you must make a note of that food group and make it a point to avoid it. The consequences of an unhealthy diet are many, and your bacne is one of them! Research has found that foods like carbohydrates, dairy products, white breads, white pasta, and white potatoes can increase the levels of acne of a person. Now that we’ve discussed what not to eat, let’s focus on what should be in your diet. Anti-inflammatory foods like berries, some nuts, fatty fish, chia seeds among many others are fantastic for back acne treatment.
