During this quarantine period, almost every influencer is turning to TikTok and Instagram to share their beauty secrets and makeup tricks. While a particular skincare routine or a makeup product may have worked for them, you can't be sure if it will work for you too. Maybe the blogger uses coconut oil to remove her makeup and when you try it, you develop a rash because that ingredient does not agree with your skin. Hence, it's important to be cautious about what you put on your skin otherwise you could develop a rash or even worse, cause damage to your skin that might make it age faster.

No one wants to look older than they are, just avoid making these beauty mistakes and you'll be fine. 

1. Not Getting Enough Sleep

It's true that COVID-19 has wreaked havoc in all our schedules, but it's important to discipline yourself during these trying times. Just how you would normally do on a regular day before the coronavirus outbreak, wake up, dress up, go to work, exercise, sleep at 11 pm and repeat the next day, do the same at home. Not getting enough sleep will make you get puffy eyes, under-eye circles, tired and dull skin. You also won't be able to be productive the next day. Hence, do your skin and body a favour by sleeping early and getting at least 8-9 hours of rest. Since commuting to work is out of the picture, you can afford to sleep for a little longer now. 

2. Over Cleansing Your Face

Washing your hands often during the day is understandable and encouraged, but doing the same for your face? Not so much. Washing your face twice or more during the day disturbs skin's natural barrier and strips your skin of its natural oils resulting in dry skin. While the oil on your skin is meant to keep your skin hydrated and moist, it's not as prone to wrinkles and fine lines in contrary to dry skin. Plus, after cleansing, make sure that you use a toner and later moisturise your skin. 

3. Applying Too Much Foundation

There is absolutely nothing wrong in using foundation, as long as you learn to use it correctly. Applying too much foundation not only makes you look older, but it's also a beauty blooper that the industry refers to as cake-face. While some of us prefer full-coverage foundations, you must understand that this product can settle into your fine lines and wrinkles making them stand out even more if you don't blend well. If you do happen to use a full-coverage product, make sure you take your time while blending. Use a damp sponge instead of a brush, it will offer a natural finish. Apply less product to areas that are prone to creasing - like your under-eye area and your laugh lines.

Another way to avoid this from happening is to opt for tinted moisturisers or just use a concealer where required. Remember, less is more when it comes to makeup. And besides, you're not piling on layers that might end up clogging your pores and leading to breakouts. 

4. Sleeping With Your Hair Open

Short hair is fine, but if you have super long hair, you might want to tie your hair into a loose ponytail or braid at night. You see, dust, oil and dirt have a tendency of getting trapped in your hair and when you toss and turn at night, your hair can deposit all that gunk onto your skin causing breakouts and clogged pores.

5. Applying Too Much Powder

Loose powder is a great product to set your makeup with, but too much of a good thing is also a bad thing. Applying too much powder to areas where you have wrinkles and fine lines will highlight them and make your skin look dry and wrinkly. 

Here's a tip while you apply powder to set your makeup. Use a large fluffy brush, swirl it around in the powder. Now, swirl that brush around on your palm until you don't see any excess powder on it. You can now use the brush to set areas of your face that are prone to getting oily, like your T-zone and under your eyes.

6. Experimenting With DIYs

Don't get me wrong, DIYs are great and are something you must do at home since you won't be going to the parlour anytime soon. However, DIY recipes defer from skin type to skin type. Before you attempt to a DIY, it is important to know your skin type and to know that the ingredient agrees with you. Always perform a patch test and avoid using ingredients that might end up irritating your skin. 

7. Using An Anti-Aging Cream Incorrectly

Anti-creams won't benefit your skin if you haven't moisturised first. So first moisturise, then layer it with an anti-ageing cream and finally, use an eye cream. This is how you can get the most of your product and your anti-aging routine.
