#BeautyDiaries: I Used Real Fruits To Make A Natural Lip Stain

Lip stains are a Korean beauty invention. Unlike your creamy, pigmented lipstick, the lip stain usually comes in the form of liquid or gel. Compared to your lippie, the lip stain is designed to stay put on your pout for longer hours. It's meant to artificially brighten the natural tint of your lips by adding a soft pop of colour. As amazing as they are, there is a catch though. They have the tendency of drying your lips out. Which is why you must apply lip balm before using a good lip stain. It works for someone who is looking for a makeup product for lips that has a fantastic staying power.

However, all good things come with a price and just FYI, lip stains are bloody expensive. Their prices start at Rs 400 and can go up to Rs 1,500 depending on the quality and popularity of a brand. So, if you want to save your bucks and follow this K-Beauty trend on a budget, then, just head over to your kitchen! I kid you not, but when fruits and olive oil join forces, a lip stain is born.

How I Used Fruits To Make A Natural Lip Stain

I'm sharing three tried and tested DIY lip stain recipes with you so that you can easily try this beauty experiment at home! Grab a notebook and a pen, will you?

Pomegranates For That Blush Pink Tint

Pomegranates are rich in antioxidants and are great for your skin and health in general. Drinking a glass of pomegranate juice daily helps to increase the blood flow which gives your complexion a radiant glow. Plus, it's tough not to fall in love with its bright red colour. Here's how to make this fruit work for you!

Step 1: Place a handful of pomegranate grains in a bowl.

Step 2: Use the back end of a spoon to crush them till you're left with just the juice.

Step 3: Pour the juice into a container and add a teaspoon of olive oil.

Step 4: Use a toothpick to stir and store in the fridge.

Step 5: Remove after two hours and your ruby red lip stain is ready to use!

Note: Before trying this beauty hack, make sure that your skin is cleansed properly. Always start on a clean canvas I say!

Mulberries Are Berry Delicious

Sometime between April to May, you can get your hands on a box of delicious mulberries. Similar to pomegranate grains, these babies are rich in antioxidants and prevent the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. The colour of the juice is a mix of purple and deep red. It makes a perfect natural berry lip stain for those who like to wear bold and dark colours.

Step 1: Throw a few mulberries into a bowl.

Step 2: Crush them with the back end of the spoon.

Step 3: Dip your finger into the mix.

Step 4: Start by gently dabbing some of the colour onto the centre of your lips.

Step 5: Spread the colour to your corners to create that ombre effect.

Note: If you find the tint too dark, you can balance the colours by pouring raspberry juice into the mulberry mix to give it that slight hint of pink.

Java Plum For The Win

Or should I call it Jamun? Anyway, any person who has eaten this fruit will tell you how heavily pigmented it is. It's got this lovely dark purple shade and when eaten, can provide the body with antioxidants, tannins, vitamins and phenolics. Those ladies who love painting their pout dark purple should try using this fruit as a lip stain.

Step 1: Take three big Jamuns in a bowl.

Step 2: Use a pestle stone to crush the fruit.

Step 3: Scoop a tiny bit of the pulp with your finger and gently dab it on your lips.

Step 4: Press your lips together so that the colour spreads around your pout evenly.

Step 5: Dab a bit of olive oil over the colour to give your lips a glossy and supple finish.

Note: Since the fruit is heavily pigmented, try investing in a good cleansing cream to take the stain off.

Didn't I tell you that these natural lip stains would be super easy to make? I'm sure you're already on your way to the kitchen right now ready to experiment. Enjoy playing scientist!
