The coloured eyeliner trend is anything but basic

go-bold-with-the-coloured-eyeliner-trend.

At the fall/winter 2018 shows there was one trend that really caught our attention. Bright, bold swipes of colourful eyeliner were seen on the models at Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo, Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Elie Saab. And the coloured liners became instantly a trend to watch out for. The idea of wearing bright swatches of colour on the eyes may come across as a beauty risk for many but its refreshing nonetheless.

Even if you are not much of a risk-taker, we’d suggest taking a break from the basic black eyeliner to try some colours. Go slow with transitioning into navy, or a soft pastel shade of pink.  Start with a plain coloured liner and ease your way into the trend. If you like to experiment, then you will love the peacock-inspired eyes. Think flashes of rich blues and green, opulent purple & pink, peppy lime, orange & yellow. Try mixing more than one shade for a fun, playful look. Create moody wings with coloured liners or add nuance to the eyes by using a gold in tandem with the black or brown liner.

Striking pink wings were seen on models at the Christian Siriano SS19 show.

No doubt black is the mother of all colours when it comes to liner and we cannot do without it. But if the runways are anything to go by, the neon and blazing colours like lime, orange, cyan, emerald green, cobalt blue along with shimmering metallics are what you must focus on. The idea is to use high-impact colours to bring out your eyes, so you look feminine without being too girly.

Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss brought his vision of African-American life to the runway with models adorning vibrant blue on the eyes.

Once you have chosen your colours and are comfortable wearing them, go further by throwing in some creativity; wear your coloured eyeliner plain or go graphic with the design. There are several wears to wear the eyeliner and it becomes more interesting with colours. It’s the perfect way to channel your inner badass babe.

To avoid looking overdone, the first thing you need to remember is to keep the rest of your makeup simple. Keep the lips neutral and avoid wearing too much blush or bronzer.
