With ‘feminism’ at the helm of a lot of conversations and movements, it’s been all about girl power since the year 2017. In the light of #MeToo and #FreeTheNipple movements, the spirit has been carried forth since then and shows no signs of stopping.
The world of fashion & beauty was not unaffected by it as unsurprisingly, many designers drew inspiration from the amplified conversation around women's empowerment for their collections. Among other trends, an array of richly coloured lips was spotted on the runways and immediately rose to fame. Scarlet and rouge pouts making a bold statement at Brandon Maxwell, Rochas, Alexander McQueen and Erdem was all about evoking power and substance. More commonly known as bold lip, the power lip is all about owning your fun, fearless and feminine side and pairing the confidence with oodles of grace. Pinks, peaches, browns and maroons have been tried, tested and approved and deemed as ‘safe’ colours, mainly because these go on all skin tones. Over the spring, gentle washes of pastel and soft colours were particularly popular, but the power lip trend is the opposite in every way. Think strong, bold shades that say, "look at me". Deeper, richer shades like the cherry, plums, wine, berry & burgundy…these stunning and powerful colours have been all over the runway for fall/winter 2018. The colder months are the perfect time to take a break from the reds and pinks and bask in the glory of these seductive shades.
