How To Prep Your Skin Before Applying Makeup

Destination Wedding Makeup

If you’ve been applying makeup directly to your face, we hate to break it to you, but you’ve been doing it all wrong! Prepping is the most important step before applying any makeup product. Cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising your face is as important as applying primer as it helps remove dirt, excess oil and other impurities that might ruin your base makeup. These 3 steps will create a smoother canvas to work with, in turn, leaving your makeup looking more natural. Even though you might have to add a little more time to your beauty routine, it’s definitely worth it. Here's what you need to do!

Cleanse & Exfoliate

This one is a no brainer. It’s always beneficial to wash your face with a gentle cleanser before applying any makeup. This helps remove excess oils and dirt without irritating the skin. This step also ensures your makeup goes on evenly and stays put throughout the day.

Rub Ice

As weird as this may sound, rubbing ice on your face after cleansing is actually really beneficial. It boosts blood circulation to your face, reduces pores, eliminates puffy eyes and makes your skin look more radiant. Best of all, it works like magic on all skin types. This makeup hack will also create a smoother canvas for your foundation.

Hydrating Cream

Once you’re done icing your face, it’s time to hydrate it with a good moisturiser. A moisturiser helps brighten and soften the skin, makes your foundation and concealer application easier and helps your makeup stay on longer. The GLOW Iridescent Brightening Moisturising Cream is perfect as it moisturises, nourishes and brightens dry, dull skin.

Primer

Before applying foundation, ALWAYS use a primer first. Primers help smoothen out the skin by filling in any crease or large pores. It also blurs out blemishes and adds an extra layer of moisture to the skin. If you want the benefits of easy application and flawless, long-lasting makeup, you shouldn't skip this step.

Lip Balm

Your lips need to be hydrated as well, so don’t forget about the lip balm. Dry lips can make your lipstick flaky and even peel off so be sure to swipe on a lip balm first and let it sit for 5 minutes before applying your lipstick or lip liner. This will soften and smooth your lips.
