Skin Fasting Is Actually A Thing & Here's What Experts Have To Say About This Beauty Trend

Back in 2019, 'skin fasting' became a popular beauty trend. According to a Japanese skincare brand, Mirai Clinical, our skin can take care of itself without depending on beauty products. That means taking a break from fancy products such as serums, face packs, essences, or heavily textured creams for a while. And it's not just this particular brand that believes in this concept, Dr. Kiran Lohia of Isya Aesthetics does too! Here's her take on skin fasting.

What Is Skin Fasting?

According To Dr. Kiran, taking a break from skincare products and cutting down on the consumption of beauty supplements is a great way to give your body a break and your skin biome time to reset.

The best way to skin fast is to stick to just plain water, moisturiser, and sunblock. Whether you are someone who follows a skincare routine diligently or is new to skincare, taking a break from products will give your skin a chance to produce its oils and repair itself. Not to mention, skin fasting helps with your products not becoming ineffective as your body gets used to your skincare routine.

Come to think of it, over-cleansing can also dry out your skin and strip it from its natural oils. Hence, once in a way, skin fasting is good for maintaining your skin's health and natural oils.

Pro Tip: Along with moisturising and applying sunblock regularly, don't forget to drink plenty of water. It will flush away the toxins and reward your skin with a healthy glow

Should You Take A Break From Beauty Supplements Too?

Dr. Kiran also encourages us to take a break from beauty supplements. As long as you eat healthily and rest well, you don't need to take supplements every day. By eating a balanced diet, you can get the majority of your vitamins, nutrients, and minerals. While your mind needs rest, don't forget that your body and skin also need to.
