Multi-Moisturizing Is The New Skincare Trend On The Block & Looks Like It’s Here To Stay

Multi-Moisturizing Is The New Skincare Trend On The Block & Looks Like It’s Here To Stay

When it comes to skincare, one should do away with the ‘one size fits all’ philosophy. There are different skin types and skin tones, so it’s only obvious that each one requires its own personal care. Allow me to introduce you to multi-moisturising. Similar to multi-masking, multi-moisturising requires one to use different moisturisers to treat different areas of the face. You see, not everyone is blessed with great skin. Some of us have to live with an oily T-zone, dry cheeks or a super-sensitive forehead. Using one moisturiser to take care of all these skin concerns is unfair and illogical.

Although multi-moisturising equals to double the effort and time, the results are fantastic. Multi-moisturising gives you the liberty and power to plan and customise your skincare regime on your terms. Plus, the lockdown buys us more time to experiment, doesn’t it? So, let’s learn something new today!

A Mini Guide To Multi-Moisturising

First things first, always apply moisturiser on fresh and clean skin. Your skincare routine order should look something like this: Cleanser > Toner > Serum > Eye Cream > Moisturiser > Face Oil > Sunscreen (during the day)/Sleeping Mask (at night). We good to go? Cool!

1. Identify The Areas

Multi-moisturising is a personal practice that requires you to understand your skin texture. You’ll have to first map out your skin by zoning the different areas of your face. Here’s how to do that. Wash your face, pat dry, and don’t touch it for an hour. Avoid applying any product too. Then gently place a tissue paper on your face, keep it on for 1 minute before removing. Pay close attention to the result. Have some parts of the tissue absorbed more oil than the others? Depending on the results, you would have identified which moisturiser works for which part of the skin.

2. Multi-Moisturize By Skin Type

Many people have two types of skin concerns. Depending on which ones they are, here’s how to choose the right moisturiser for your skin type.

Dry Skin: How to know if your skin is dry? It feels tight, flaky, and uncomfortable. These signs are proof that your skin needs hydration. You need a cream or a gel-based product that’s rich in hydrating ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, lanolin, ceramides, and hyaluronate.

Sensitive Skin: How to know if your skin is sensitive? If your skin breakouts and flares up after topically applying a product, you have sensitive skin. Women with this skin type need to avoid products that contain fragrance, alcohol, parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, harsh exfoliants, essential oils, and chemicals. Instead, opt for products which are natural. Ingredients like aloe vera, calendula extract, chamomile extract, and shea butter are good for your skin type.

Oily Skin: How to know if your skin is oily? It’s visible and obvious. The oilier your skin, the more it’s prone to breakouts. Women with oily skin fear that if they apply moisturiser, it will make the situation worse. Your best bet is a lightweight moisturiser that doesn’t feel too oily or sticky on the skin post application. The hero ingredient here is hyaluronic acid. It’s lightweight and extremely hydrating at the same time.

Combination Skin: How to know if you have combination skin? It’s tricky to treat when some parts of your skin are dry and the other parts are oily and greasy. Use a lightweight moisturiser on areas which are naturally oily like your T-Zone, forehead, and chin and a thicker moisturiser for the drier parts of your face like your cheeks and jawline.

Acne-Prone Skin: How to know if you have acne-prone skin? Like oily skin, acne is pretty visible. However, the real challenge here is to find out what type of acne you have before you choose a moisturiser. Find a moisturiser that’s formulated with salicylic acid and is non-comedogenic. Avoid heavy moisturisers as they can clog the pores and cause breakouts.

3. Prepare For Change

Your skin changes according to the season. During winter, it’s going to appear drier and during summer more oily. When this occurs, you will have to adapt your skincare routine according to the environment and the weather. Unfortunately, there’s no all-season product to hail you through life.

4. Hello H2O!

No matter what your skin type, hydration is extremely important. You can either drink your way to pretty skin or use products that have hyaluronic acid in them. ‘Coz today, every skincare product revolves around hydration. Products are either boosting hydration or trapping it in the skin. So, either plenty of water or plenty of options. Or both!

Although multi-moisturising sounds complicated, it’s a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. You should totally give it a try!
