Now That Sex And The City Is Returning, Let's Look At Beauty Lessons We Learned From It
The famed TV show from the late nineties, Sex And The City is getting a reboot and we couldn't be more excited! The new show will be titled And Just Like That… and will star Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. We, however, won't be seeing Kim Cattrall (Samanatha Jones) making a comeback in this new 10-part series that begins production in early 2021. The three stars shared a sneak peek of of the new show on their social media platforms.
With the revival of the show in the works, it is only fair that we take a trip down memory lane and recap the best beauty lessons we've learned from Carrie and crew.
Beauty Lessons That Sex And The City Taught Us That Still Hold True
Work your natural hair texture
Embrace it like Carrie Bradshaw. It takes a lot of work to perfect kinks, curls and waves so it is essential you find products that work for your hair type, avoid straighteners and heat tools and handle wet hair with utmost care. If your hair tends to get into knots often, use a conditioner that has some slip, on wash days. Always detangle your hair when it's wet to avoid breakage.
Don't be afraid to experiment with your mane
Like Charlotte York, don't be afraid to experiment with your hair. If you're a straight-haired girl who is looking to fake the Carrie Bradshaw mane, here are some beauty tips:
- Use a curl-defining shampoo to give your hair some extra hydration and nourishment.
Scrunch your hair with a flexible-hold gel. - Twist your hair using foam rollers.
- Then, fire up your hair dryer and dry your hair while it is still in the curlers.
- Remove the curlers and scrunch in a curl cream
- Voila! You have a head full of Carrie Bradshaw's signature curly hair.
There's never a thing like too much kohl
In the second SATC movie, Carrie tight lines her top and bottom lids and effortlessly and extends the kohl past the corners of her eyes. The result? An intense cat-eye look that we'd happily copy, even today. Can't draw on equal wings? Just reach out for a stick-on liner.
Be careful when it comes to chemical peels
Every skincare lover worth their niacinamide serum knows this: physical face scrubs can cause serious damage to your face. The alternatives are chemical peels and while these are touted for their effectiveness, be warned that skincare brands are not playing when it comes to their formulations. To avoid post-peels burns like Samantha Jones, make sure you're consulting your dermat. If dull skin is your major skin woe, inquire about AHAs and if clogged pores are your pet peeve, find out more about BHAs.
DIY face masks are essential
Samantha Jones applied mashed-up yams on her face to slow down aging and while this homemade mask isn't one we're tried, there are a few recipes we do swear by. Take half an avocado and some honey and make a paste out of the two. Apply it on your face and hair for twenty minutes and rinse off for a shiny glow.
